bags

This work was made up of clear and orange colored newspaper bags. They are being held up by the clips one usually sees attached to name badges. These are tied to monofilament which is then tied to the lattice above.

The idea at the time was that this piece had to do with identity. How we know ourselves, the culture and environment around us and how to varying degrees this is shaped by how and where we get our news. How cognizant we are of these influences, how we would interact with each other if these sources weren’t available to us and on and on.

Currently, my only focus is on the physical properties of a piece and not at all in what a work might mean. Most all of my newer works have no meaning attached to them. I am concerned with shape, color, size, texture, space, light, sound, etc. and how those things may impart a visceral experience on their own terms.
