Donald Judd

..“the only role I can think of in a very general way for the artist is it tends to shake up the society a little bit just by it’s existence in which case it helps undermine the general political stagnation and perhaps by providing a little freedom supports science which requires freedom”…

a poem i rediscovered

I vaguely remembered a poem that I had learned some time around late elementary or early high school . The only things that I could remember were something about a red wheelbarrow and rain and that I had loved it.

The Red Wheelbarrow

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens.

-William Carlos Williams

I was extremely happy to be reunited with this one. It is both a crystallization and summation at the same time which I think is what some of the best art can do. It’s a marvelous poem, thank you William Carlos Williams.
